You鈥檒l be prepared to take the state licensing exam to become a licensed cosmetologist!

According to the , cosmetologists provide a range of different services including hair cleaning, haircutting, and hairstyling. They also provide facial and scalp treatments, makeup analysis, and skincare and nail services.

 

According to the , the median hourly wage for hairdressers, hairstylists, and cosmetologists in May 2024 was $16.95. It鈥檚 important to note that many cosmetologists receive tips from their customers, and that high-quality work and exceptional customer service are typically attributed to higher tips.

Cosmetologists work mostly in a salon, although some work in a spa, hotel, or resort. Some lease booth space from a salon owner, others manage salons or open their own shop after several years of experience.
